Walker VS Wheeleo®

Walker VS Wheeleo®

Since the appearance of wheels under walking frames, the walker has become a must-have walking aid. It is used by many people around the world.
The choice of a walking aid must be adapted according to the person's abilities and the environment in which it will be used.

The walker has several advantages:

🔹It allows a constant support on the ground (the frame does not have to be raised)
🔹It is stable (important base of sustentation)
🔹It allows support with both hands (for stability)
🔹It is usually equipped with large wheels that allow it to travel on uneven ground.
🔹It is equipped with a bag or a basket
🔹It is usually possible to sit on it (to take a break if needed)
🔹There are brakes just in case...

The walker is particularly suitable for outdoor use because:

🔹The distances to be covered are greater than at home.
🔹The ground is + irregular (gravel, cobblestones, ...), with slopes, uphill, downhill.
🔹Transporting equipment (jacket, groceries, ...) is often necessary.

Indoors, the use of the walker does not become so optimal for several reasons:

🔹The walker is often too bulky to fit between the furniture of the home.
🔹It monopolizes both hands. Interaction with the environment is limited (carrying an object for example).
🔹Distances are shorter than outside. Walking indoors is less tiring. The walker gives too much help. No need to sit on it when I can sit on a chair at home.
🔹Flat floor and there is presence of furniture/walls to stand on. The person often does not need as much help.
🔹The walker is unwieldy.

When faced with this situation, the person using the walker outdoors has several options for indoors:

🔹Continue to use the walker indoors.
🔹Use a conventional cane (which must be lifted with each step and falls to the ground when placed against furniture). Comfort is often diminished.
🔹Use nothing. The person will therefore lean on all furniture and walls. The risk is increased and the comfort is lower.

Faced with this situation, the Wheeleo® brings an additional solution:

✅Certainly, it gives less help than a walker but it is still enough given the environment (indoor, flat floor, short distance, ...).
✅It frees a hand to interact with the environment (open a door, take an object, ...)
✅It is less cumbersome than a walker. The maneuverability is greater. (see video)
✅It stays upright when dropped (to wash your hands, cut a fruit, ...)
✅It offers the same type of assistance of a walker (constant support, does not need to be lifted).
